Interest Based Ads Policy

TARGETED ADS NOTICE

Effective as of: January 2023

Prior version effective: July 2020 (under prior title ‘Interest-Based Ads Policy’)

This Targeted Ads Notice is part of the JD Finish Line Privacy Policy. Terms that are capitalized in this Notice are defined in the Finish Line Privacy Policy.

To create a more customized online experience for you, some of the ads you may receive through our Services and other platforms may be tailored to your interests and online behaviors. This is known as cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising (“Targeted Advertising” or “Targeted Ads”).

We engage other companies to assist us in collecting and using information related to you for advertising purposes (“Partners”). Where we describe our collection and use practices in this Notice, our Partners may be engaged in the same or similar collection and use practices on our behalf.

We engage in Targeted Advertising.

Targeted Advertising shows you ads after you leave a website, encouraging you to return. We may display Targeted Ads using information gathered about you over time across multiple websites, devices or other platforms.

Our Targeted Ads:

  • may be shown to you after you leave our Site or after you leave the websites of third parties;
  • may be ads we think are relevant based on your online or in-App browsing habits; and
  • may be shown to you on other websites.

Targeted Ads may enhance your experience because they are more tailored to your particular interests and can help provide you with the most relevant information that aligns to your interests.

We use common tracking technologies.

We collect certain Personal Information over time and across different websites, apps, devices and interactions when you use our Services. To do this, we use several common tracking technologies and tools. These may include cookies, web beacons, pixels and other tracking technologies and tools used on our Site and App.

  • Cookies: A cookie is a small data file that is placed by a website on the device you use to access the Internet. Cookies can serve different purposes and may be tied to Personal Information. Types of cookies we may use include:

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are necessary for the Site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the Site will not then work. These cookies do not store any Personal Information.

  • Performance Cookies: These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies, we will not know when you have visited our Site and we will not be able to monitor our Site’s performance.

  • Functional Cookies: These cookies enable the Site to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies, then some or all of these services may not function properly.

  • Targeting Cookies: These cookies may be set through our Site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other Sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less Targeted Advertising.

  • Social Media Cookies: These cookies are set by a range of social media services that we have added to the Site to enable you to share our content with your friends and networks. They are capable of tracking your browser across other Sites and building up a profile of your interests. This may impact the content and messages you see on other websites you visit. If you do not allow these cookies, you may not be able to use or see these sharing tools.

  • Web Beacons, Pixel Tags, & Clear GIFs:  These trackers are clear graphic images (typically one pixel in size) that are delivered through a web browser or HTML e-mail. Each instance of such a tracker operates as a tag that records an end user’s visit to a particular web page or viewing of a particular e-mail. Each tracker is also often used in conjunction with a web cookie and provided as part of a third-party tracking service. Web beacons provide an ability to produce specific profiles of user behavior in combination with web server logs as a user visits various websites across the internet.

We use tracking technologies for a variety of reasons.

We use tracking technologies and tools to help us optimize, maintain, refine and personalize your experience with us. For example, our use of such technologies and tools help us to:

  • recognize new or past users.
  • store your password if you have registered on our Site.
  • improve our Site and App.
  • show you Targeted Ads.
  • observe your browsing activities over time across multiple websites or other platforms.
  • better understand the interests of visitors to our Site and App.

How we gather relevant information about you for Targeted Advertising.

To decide what is relevant to you, we use information (including Personal Information) you make available when you interact with us, our affiliates and other third parties. This information is gathered using the tracking technologies and tools described above and in the JD Finish Line Privacy Policy. For example, we might look at your purchases (made offline or online) or browsing behaviors, and we might look at these activities on our platforms or the platforms of others.

Your privacy rights regarding Targeted Advertising.

Privacy laws in some states grant you rights to control your Personal Information, including how we use and share your information for advertising purposes. These rights, and how you can exercise them, are fully described in the JD Finish Line Privacy Policy.

You can control certain tracking tools.

Your browser may give you the ability to control cookies. How you do so depends on the type of cookie.

  • Certain browsers can be set to reject browser cookies.
  • Certain options you select are browser and device specific.

You can opt-out of Targeted Advertising.

Some of our Partners participate in self-regulatory programs for Targeted Advertising (also known as interest-based advertising) through the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) and/or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA). Each of these programs provides an opt-out feature where you can choose not to receive Targeted Advertising from any NAI member or DAA participant.

  • To opt-out of tracking by companies who are NAI members, please click HERE.
  • To opt-out of tracking by companies who are DAA participants, please click HERE.

The Digital Advertising Alliance also offers a tool for opting out of the collection of cross-app data on a mobile device for Targeted Advertising. Click HERE to learn about the Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app, a tool for opting out of the collection of cross-app data on a mobile device for interest-based advertising by participating service Partners. You may download the AppChoices app HERE for iOS devices and HERE for Android devices.

Click HERE to visit the Network Advertising Initiative’s informational page on opting out on mobile devices, which includes advertising choice mechanisms provided by certain mobile device manufacturers.

Certain laws grant certain individuals rights to control their Personal Information. If you are such an individual, you may also request that we do not Sell or Share your Personal Information by completing the Privacy Request web form available on the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link on the footer of our websites.

You can stop all further collection of information by or via our App by uninstalling our App. You may use the standard uninstall process available as part of your mobile device or through the mobile application marketplace or network.

If you uninstall our App from your mobile device, a unique identifier we used that was associated with your device may continue to be stored. If you re-install our App on the same mobile device, we may be able to re-associate this unique identifier to your prior transactions and activities.

Certain choices you make are both browser and device-specific.
